Nigerian designers are becoming more creative. Now that the dollar is ‘reaching for the skies’, it has become even more important for us to support Nigerian businesses and purchase #madeinNigeria goods. Made in Nigeria products do not have to be expensive (as some designs are) or be of low quality (as some people think). FadesOmi has found a balance between producing high quality and affordable designs. Her designs were the limelight of the Kanga fashion festival, which held last Saturday at Flaming flamingo, Abuja.
Preparation for the event
I met up with Fadesomi and her friends; Cynthia and Lizzy at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where our makeup was done by Tito of t.alamodebeauty. I actually met her friends for the first time and we had a great time there. After our faces were ‘beat’ to perfection, you should have been there to see the excitement on our faces. We took selfies till our batteries were running low.
The Kanga fashion festival
We arrived at the venue for the event just in time to settle in and mingle. But of course, as most Nigerian events, it did not start on time. I was actually not surprised with the ‘African’ timing, I guess I am getting more accustomed to it. I wore one of FadesOmi’s designs to this event and I absolutely loved it. The featured designs were:
- a blue floral kaftan
- a pink midi pencil dress
- a mustard cape dress
I also got to meet quite a number of Abuja based bloggers during the event.
